Happy National Trucking Week from the Manitoba Trucking Association! As the week draws near, it is an opportunity to recognize the contributions our industry makes economically and socially, locally, nationally, and internationally.

However, even though we are focusing on the positive during National Trucking Week, there is work to be done. In Manitoba, we are advocating for improved rest areas for drivers and improved winter road maintenance. Both of these items are vital to the safety of not only our industry’s professional drivers but all road users.

We are also working hard to address issues related to Driver Inc. in Manitoba. This intentional misclassification of drivers goes beyond unpaid taxes and into the realms of labour and immigration abuses. Driver Inc. is a safety issue that impacts everyone. There is no place for it in Manitoba’s trucking industry, and we are working towards its elimination in this province.

During National Trucking Week, amid the celebrations, know that your efforts are not taken for granted. Trucking plays an integral role in the provincial economy, and we continue, as always, to advocate for a safe and healthy business environment for our industry.

Aaron Dolyniuk, Executive Director – Manitoba Trucking Association
