For over 26 years, Chris Schindelhauer has been a dedicated member of the TIP Fleet Services Canada team (formerly Lions Gate Trailers and Trailer Wizards). He’s witnessed the company’s evolution firsthand, contributing to its success in various roles, from dealership and rental sales to sales manager and operations. Currently, Chris has been serving as the Branch Manager at Delta since 2017.
National Leader in Trailer Solutions
TIP’s Canadian division boasts an impressive national fleet network, with over 28,000 units – including vans, reefers, chassis, flatbeds, and step decks –
serving customers across the country. Their expertise extends far beyond leasing and rentals, encompassing trailer maintenance, repair, and a variety of value-added services.
A recent exciting development (as of April 2024) is the integration with Transportation Equipment Network (TEN), solidifying TIP Canada’s position as the second-largest trailer leasing company in North America, with a combined fleet exceeding 83,000 trailers. Chris says, “This signifies a commitment to continuous growth and exceptional service for our clients.”
Thriving on Teamwork and Innovation
Chris is grateful for the opportunities that TIP has given him and has found that changing roles over the years has kept his job interesting. Something he’s most thankful for is his exceptional team, both regionally and nationally. His coworkers have equally made his time at TIP Fleet Services rewarding and worthwhile. “One of the things I value most about TIP Fleet Services is the collaborative team spirit,” says Chris. “We have a talented group of employees, some with decades of experience, working alongside newer recruits. This blend of knowledge and fresh perspectives fosters a dynamic and supportive work environment.” The company also prioritizes staying ahead of the curve. Chris explains, “We actively partner with suppliers and participate in industry events to stay informed about the latest advancements. Additionally, TIP is a strong advocate for technological innovation, continuously investing resources to remain a leader in the field.”
Navigating Industry Challenges
The trucking industry faces numerous challenges, including driver shortages, rising operational costs, and the impact of inflation on equipment prices. Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) concerns and related technological advancements add another layer of complexity. “We actively address these challenges by working closely with our partners and staying informed about emerging solutions,” says Chris.
Embracing a Sustainable Future
The rise of electric and hybrid trucks is a significant development in the industry. Chris acknowledges, “Supporting this technology is crucial for the industry’s future. While the market is still evolving, we recognize the need for open-mindedness in finding the most suitable solutions for different trucking segments. Hydrogen technology might play a significant role in long-haul transportation in the years to come.”
A Valued BCTA Partnership
BCTA’s dedication to safety, reliability, and efficiency in transportation aligns perfectly with TIP Fleet Services’ values. Chris highlights the importance of this partnership: “BCTA’s advocacy efforts benefit the entire industry, including TIP Canada.” He continues, “My journey with TIP Fleet Services began in 1998, but our BCTA membership actually predates that, going back to 1969 under Carl Vanderspek’s leadership at Lions Gate Trailers.” This longstanding commitment to the BC Trucking Association (BCTA) reflects TIP’s deep roots in the Canadian transportation industry and the shared beliefs between TIP and BCTA.
A Passionate Team with Deep Roots
What truly sets TIP Fleet Services apart? Chris emphasizes, “Our team of dedicated and professional members is our greatest asset. We have a wealth of industry experience and a genuine commitment to serving our customers, many of whom have been loyal partners for over 50 years.” Chris also notes that the new partnership with TEN will provide fantastic opportunities for both TIP and its customers.
Launching Rewarding Careers
For aspiring transportation professionals, Chris offers valuable advice: “The trucking industry is full of rewarding career opportunities. Do your research, identify a role that aligns with your interests, and choose a reputable company that invests in your career growth.”
Life Beyond the Workplace
When Chris isn’t dedicated to supporting TIP’s business and customers, he cherishes spending quality time with family in Tsawwassen, BC. An avid outdoor enthusiast, they enjoy exploring the beautiful BC coast on their boat during the summers. “Time with family and friends is definitely top of my list,” he says. Fishing, mountain biking, hiking, camping, gardening, and travelling are all activities that bring Chris joy. Ultimately, a healthy work-life balance is key, and TIP Fleet Services fosters a culture that allows employees to thrive in all aspects of their lives.
