The AGM opened with greetings from The Honourable Minister Doyle Piwniuk (Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure) and Deputy Mayor Janice Lukes (City of Winnipeg). Guest presenters at the AGM included CTA Chair Greg Munden, CTA Senior Vice-President Geoffrey Wood, and Trucking HR Canada CEO Angela Splinter.

Immediately following the AGM was the first meeting of the new Board of Directors. Appointed to the Executive Committee of the MTA’s Board of Directors at this meeting were President Jason Dubois (Len Dubois Trucking Inc.), 1st Vice-President Pauline Wiebe Peters (Payne Transportation Ltd.), and 2nd-Vice President Jeffrey Odway (Prairie International Container & Dray Services Inc.). Members-at-Large are Trent Siemens (Kleysen Group Ltd.), Ryan Mitchell (Wildwood Transport Inc.), and Brent Arnold (Arnold Bros. Transport Ltd.).

In the afternoon, RPM hosted its third annual Speaker Series. It opened with greetings from RPM Safety Council Chair Norm Blagden. Jamie Hall (SAFE Work Manitoba) presented on progress made by the industry regarding safety. He was thanked for his dedication to Manitoba’s trucking industry with a Driven to Succeed print from the MTA, presented by MTA Executive Director Aaron Dolyniuk.

Dr. Mark Manera (Supply Chain Fitness) discussed the impact of physical fitness on the industry – recruitment, retention, insurance – and discussed possible solutions. Dr. Manera was followed by Sylvia Marusyk (MindBody Works), who outlined the impacts of stress on our mental health.

The day wrapped up with the MTA Spring Gala, which featured the comedic styling of Matt Falk and a casino. Congratulations to Heather Newbiggin, winner of the door prize. Rather than a physical door prize, this year, it was decided that the door prize would be a donation to the winner’s charity of choice. As a result, a $400 donation will be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation on Heather’s behalf. Also, $540 was raised via the casino for the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.

On Thursday, April 13, 2023, we kicked off our events with Women with Drive Hits the Road, featuring Angela Splinter of Trucking HR Canada, to discuss recruitment, retention, and promotion of women in the trucking industry. Our events blitz wrapped up on April 18, 2023, when we welcomed, in partnership with GL Transport Consulting, LeeAnn Jangula and Darwin Bring of the US Department of Transportation to address issues facing our cross-border carrier members.

The Manitoba Trucking Association would like to thank all of our event sponsors, guest speakers, and attendees who contributed to the success of these events.
