The COVID-19 pandemic spurred a renewed awareness of the time and efforts commercial drivers put into their work to ensure goods get to where they need to go.

The Alberta Motor Transport Association was able to share a small token of thanks with drivers for their efforts at the Association’s annual Driver Appreciation Days. The Association holds events yearly to coincide with National Trucking Week.

National Trucking Week is held yearly to celebrate the more than 400,000 Canadians who keep freight on the move back and forth across the country and beyond.

“We know these are challenging times but, as always, commercial drivers have answered the call and because of that, shelves remain stocked and medications are getting to the people who need them most,” said AMTA President Chris Nash. “The AMTA’s Driver Appreciation event, particularly in 2020, allows us to thank drivers personally for what they do every day.”

Staff, Alberta Sheriffs and a dedicated group of volunteers, wore masks and practiced social distancing in order to once again shine a spotlight on drivers at six Alberta CVE locations: Strathmore, Atmore, Demmitt, Leduc, Coutts and Medicine Hat. Coutts and Medicine Hat were new additions to the Driver Appreciation lineup this year, and the number of gift bags doled out to drivers was more than 2,500.
The AMTA would like to extend a big thank you to event sponsors Isaac Instruments, CNTL, ColdFront, Loblaws, Fluid Energy Group and Rosenau Transport Ltd.
