The Alberta Motor Transport Association celebrated its 70th annual Professional Truck Driving Championship in style – on the newly paved five-acre training area of the association’s new facility, located at Edmonton International Airport.
While the training area has been completed, the building is set for a grand opening in the fall.
“The rain held off for a beautiful day of Alberta’s best drivers showing off their professionalism and skills,” said AMTA President Chris Nash. “I would like to give my thanks to everyone involved, from the event committee to our volunteers to the drivers and their families and the public who attended the day.”
The Championship was held in conjunction with the 25th annual Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Inspectors Championship. This combined event is one of several highlighting the strength of the partnership between the AMTA and CVE.
CVE Grand Champion, Acting Sergeant Trevor Snoddon, will represent Alberta in the North American Inspectors Challenge in Ohio this August. Should Acting Sergeant Snoddon be unable to attend, runner up Officer Sarah Brunschwiler will attend in his place.
“Despite the removal of two event categories, single-single and single-tandem, this year’s Professional Truck Driving Championship was one of the best attended yet, and we look forward to seeing the event grow in years to come at our new Edmonton facility,” said Nash.
