Every year, as part of its prestigious Manitoba Business Awards, the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce (MCC) is honoured to present a Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community by an Individual. For 2019, MCC has selected Doug Harvey, President & CEO of Maxim Truck & Trailer, as the deserving individual award winner.

Doug is a true Winnipegger, raised in Fort Garry, and an Asper alumnus with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba. He launched his career as a sales rep with International Harvester, and, in 1981, as International began privatizing its dealerships, Doug seized the opportunity to become a business owner by buying into his first truck dealership in Winnipeg. Today, Doug is President & CEO of Maxim Truck & Trailer, a heavy truck and trailer dealer with 18 retail facilities nation-wide.

In addition to Maxim Truck & Trailer, Doug also owns Arne’s Welding Ltd. in Winnipeg and Summit Trailers in Edmonton and Penticton. In total, his business enterprises employ more than 800 people across Canada.

Here are just some of the many ways Doug makes a difference to his community:

• He inspires the philanthropic spirit in his staff, encouraging them to give back through volunteering and fundraising.

• As a result of Doug’s generosity, every year, a percentage of Maxim’s revenues are donated to charity. The company supports community organizations, and sponsors arts, culture, education, health,
and sports initiatives in cities throughout Canada.

• The Association of Fundraising Professionals of Manitoba named Doug Outstanding Philanthropist in 2015, acknowledging him for his support of Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation, the Canadian
Museum for Human Rights, and Assiniboine Park Conservancy.

• Doug has made a huge impact on Winnipeg in terms of progress, and leads by example. He believes that when a city has the opportunity to do something world-class, the local community needs to get behind it. Doug is a past chair of the Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation and was the chair of the planning committee for their recent capital campaign. He has also served on numerous boards and industry committees including the Business Council of Manitoba, the Mazergroup, CentreVenture Development Corporation, Western Canada Aviation Museum capital campaign, and the advisory board of Yes! Winnipeg.

Doug’s impact in Manitoba and across Canada is immeasurable, and he shows no signs of slowing down. Congratulations on this latest honour, Doug.
