The MTA is pleased to announce that after much contemplation, discussion, and planning, turnpike doubles will now be a competition category in the PTDC.

This past fall, the committee took the dimensions from the new Husky competition location to Assiniboia Downs (rather than taking up space in the Husky parking lot during the week) and was able to map out and successfully complete the driving challenge, using five to six of the same obstacles that other drivers face during the competition. An additional challenge for those who choose to compete in this category is hooking and unhooking a set of turnpikes. As well, drivers will complete the written test and pre-trip, like all other competitors.

Being the inaugural year, registration will be limited to six competitors until event organizers are better able to determine time requirements for this new category. Other competition categories include tandem-tandem, single- tandem, and B-trains.

“We are thrilled to add this to our event. It can be a challenge to come up with new ways to change the TDC, but as our industry evolves, it is great that our event is able to evolve with it,” said Darcy Olson, chair of the Truck Driving Championship committee.

This year’s event is scheduled for June 15 at Headingley Husky.
