May 2011 – Press Release

New Firestone Drive Tire is Ultra Fuel-Efficient, Long Wearing
Firestone FD695 Plus is approved for use on SmartWaySM-certified tractors

NASHVILLE, TN (May 10, 2011) Bridgestone Commercial Solutions Group (BCSG), a division of Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, is introducing the new Firestone brand FD695 PLUS drive tire.  Built for exceptional fuel efficiency without sacrificing removal mileage, the FD695 PLUS is approved for use on Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWaySM-certified equipment and is ideal for fleets running California Air Resources Board (CARB)-compliant vehicles.  The FD695 PLUS is designed for optimum performance on tandem axle drive tractors in long-haul and regional operations.

With the latest fuel-efficient casing technology and proven low rolling resistance tread and sidewall compounds, the FD695 PLUS offers rolling resistance that is among the industry best.  Wear life isn't sacrificed due to its cap/base tread compounding design and deep 26/32´´ original tread depth.  Continuous shoulder ribs distribute weight and torque evenly to fight irregular wear, and they are coupled to an aggressive center lug tread design to provide solid wet traction.  Selecting the right tire for the job helps our customers cut their cost per mile while meeting the technology requirements of the SmartWay transportation partnership.

As with all Firestone products, the FD695 PLUS casing was designed with retreadability in mind.  The FD695 PLUS casing, with four full steel belts and a steel body ply, can be retreaded for either trailer or drive axle service for many more low cost miles.

SmartWay is an innovative, voluntary partnership of the EPA that reduces greenhouse gases and improves fuel efficiency in the nation's trucks and railroads. This voluntary program helps fleets make the right choices when specifying for optimum fuel efficiency – including recommendations for both OE and replacement tires.

The EPA verifies low rolling resistance tires achieving at least three percent better fuel economy than the average, "best selling" new tire. Fleets participating in the SmartWay partnership must use tires approved by the EPA to maintain their SmartWay status.
