Dave Ridsdale
Trucking industry veteran Dave Ridsdale passed away recently in Saskatoon at the age of 84.
Dave grew up on a farm and always had an affinity for the rural life and horses in particular. Dave joined the armed forces as an 18-year-old and after World War II returned home to the Asquith area. There, he met Edith Gunnlaugson, who was to become his wife of 62 years.
In 1949, Dave and his brother Fred formed Ridsdale Bros. Transport. Fred eventually left the company and Dave carried on growing the business into one of Western Canada’s most recognized carriers.
In 1980-81, Dave served as President of the STA. He was awarded the prestigious Trailmobile Service to the Industry Award in 1982 in recognition of his dedication to the trucking industry.
Today, Dave’s sons run the company, which is now called Ridsdale Transport Ltd.
